Finding Spontaneity and the Edinburgh Fringe Fest

Hello, friends! Many words have been applied to me throughout my lifetime, but very rarely has the word “spontaneous” been used. I suspect that’s true for a lot of my subscribers. As I’ve gotten older, however, I lean into it more than I used to. A good example is my daughter’s play at Edinburgh Fringe Fest. My youngest daughter wrote a play that’s getting produced at the Edinburgh Fringe Fest this week. As soon as I realized she was going, there was a long debate about whether I should go. Is she going to need my help? Will I be in the way? Is this a thing where I should let her be her own woman and stay out of it? After considering all the factors, I made a very proper analytical decision to stay home and let her enjoy this without dealing with her father. Then, someone sent me a picture of a poster promoting the play taken on the streets of Edinburgh, and I knew I was sunk. All of my rational thinking that prevented me from going got thrown out the window, and I bought a last-minute ticket and a few nights at an Airbnb. So someday in the distant future, when I’m laying in a bed drooling on myself, I can remember going to Scotland to watch this play fondly. To quote Seneca: “Is it really so pleasant to die in harness?”
